Resident agent applicants must complete the following prelicensing education program requirements from an Ohio approved pre-licensing provider, prior to taking an examination:
Ohio resident applicants must complete pre-licensing education from an approved pre-license provider for each of the above-mentioned lines of authority. The educational requirements may be met by either completing a 20-hour classroom course or successfully completing an approved self-study course. Applicants that have a Bachelor or Associates Degree in Insurance or have a CLU or CPCU designation may request a Pre-License Education Waiver prior to registering for an exam. The pre-license education may be waived for Life, Accident & Health applicants holding the CLU designation and for Property, Casualty and Personal Lines applicants holding the CPCU designation. Applicants with an Associates or Bachelors Degree with a major in Insurance may have the education waived for all major lines of authority (except Surety Bail Bond). The Department currently offers the following examination types:
Upon completing the required pre-licensing education program, applicants will be issued a Course Completion Certificate for each line of authority completed. This certificate is valid for a period of 180-days, and the corresponding exam must be successfully completed during this period. Applicants will not be admitted to an exam without the original, unaltered course completion certificate(s) for each corresponding line of authority. If a student is taking a combined exam, they will need to submit two course completion certificates (one for each line of authority). * Title applicants are not required to complete pre-license education and therefore may not have a course completion certificate.
